Gregory (b: May 12, 2009) was in first grade at a public school, Nyangu Primary, when his father died. He told us, “It was hard for me to learn there and God told me that he would take me to a place where I could learn. The day I came to Achungo, when I was in 1st grade, I felt as if I was in heaven. I am in such a better place. Not like the public school, where the students are not being taught. The best thing about Achungo is that the students work hard.”
He lives in Homa Bay Village, Kanyada, with his mother and his 3 younger brothers, who attend Nyangu Primary.
They do not have a family garden, but his mother finds work in local farms and sometimes Gregory finds work digging for farmers or herding cattle to help support his family.
He told us, “When I finish my studies I want to have a better life. I could be a pilot or another good job so that I can show our children the importance of finishing their schooling so they can be good people and have good jobs.”
