8th Grade Graduates of 2022 December (Rodi)

I lost both my parents (Jack and Maggy) when I was small through a road accident. We lived next to Olare Centre with my grandmother and 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Now, my grandmother is 86 and finds it hard to take care of all of us. She works as a hawker on Imbo-Olare Road, usually selling Dagaa (Lake Victoria sardines) to raise money for our meals. One day, 6 years ago, she found out about Achungo from one of her customers and brought me to Achungo. It is a wonderful school that helps the more vulnerable in society by bringing in orphans and the needy.

Achungo Educational Centre is among the best schools in our county and the best part of it is that Achungo is a school that sympathizes with the poor and this is different from most of the schools in the country.

My favorite game is soccer and throwing javelin. Apart from that I like spending my leisure time reading storybooks and newspapers. I like playing soccer and reading novels together with my friend, Paul. Because my family is poor, during breaks I just watch others buying snacks at the canteen. When I’m home I help my grandmother with house chores by fetching water from ten kilometers away and fetching firewood from the nearby forest and taking care of my younger ones, since I am the elder son. After that I sweep our grass-thatched house and sprinkle water around the floor to reduce the risk of contracting TB and other common communicable diseases. I take our cows to drink and after finishing all my chores, I take them to the shed.

After education I would like to become a cardiologist because I feel pity for those who die because of heart diseases. If I get that career, I would reduce the cost of operations and I will help the society as a whole with a heart centre to help the needy who cannot afford treatment. I have hope that one day I will pursue my ambition, God’s willing.
