8th Grade Graduates of 2022 December (Imbo)

I came to Achungo seven years ago after attending Rongo Primary but they had no library where we could find review books, like there is at Achungo. I find Achungo the best school ever – there is everything needed for me to study, including the best teachers. At Rongo there was no water but here at Achungo there are several tanks of water and we can use as much water as we want. Achungo is very interested in its students and has many books to use for studies.

I live with my grandmother at Ahero Kano in Kisumu, having lost my parents a long time ago when I was very young. My mother died while giving birth to my younger brother. He survived but my mother went to her rest. My father died from a road accident when he was going to Homa Bay on his motorcycle. I have two older brothers and a younger sister. Sometimes we are really suffering because we do not have food to eat. Sometimes I wish we didn’t have to close the school (during holidays) because here you are very sure that you will have breakfast, lunch and supper.

I expect to finish my primary studies here at Achungo because there is nowhere else I can go to study free without having to pay school fees. I always assure my grandparents that I am going to school because I want to learn in order to help them and I thank them for what they are doing for me and my siblings.

My best friends, Fancy, Lorine and Daizy, always tell me their stories and like me, they are total orphans. We read together, tell stories together and do many things together in the dorm. On break times we like to play volleyball. When I go home on holidays I spend time with my grandparents, chatting with them. They always tell me about my parents’ life before they passed away. On one holiday my grandmother took us to our home where my parents lived before they died. I couldn’t believe it. We found our home very overgrown. There were new people living there. I promised my grandmother that this home will rise again and it will be called a home again.

After my education I want to become a Severe (I think she means, lawyer or maybe, process server). In our area I have seen very many people with big plots of land but one day a rich person comes to your home and forces you to take a small amount of money so that he/she can take your land. I want to help people like those people that are forced to give away land without signing anything. That’s why I want to be a severe.
