8th Grade Graduates of 2022 April (Rodi)

Before I came to Achungo and entered 3rd grade, I attended Ndiru Primary School near our home in Ndiru Village. I was living with my parents, who died 7 years ago in an accident when I was only 6 years old. I don’t have any sisters or brothers and I don’t know very much about my parents. My parents never went to school and never had jobs. They could sometimes provide food at night but this was not consistent and sometimes I slept without taking dinner. We never had breakfast or lunch.

After my parent’s deaths, the director of Achungo came and asked me to come to the school, offering me a sponsorship. Attending Achungo was a great step in my life. I had never imagined that I could study in one of the best schools in the county. My parents often could not afford fees for Ndiru Primary. I always loved studying but was often sent home for a term because the fees were not paid.

I don’t have any sisters or brothers and am staying with my aunt now while attending Achungo. She hasn’t been providing for me and just takes care of herself. She doesn’t care how I dress or if I eat or sleep. My aunt usually works in her garden tending her crops. After that, she comes back to rest without asking questions about how I am doing.

I never thought I could be a student at Achungo because of my home problems, and pupils there perform very well compared to public schools. One difference for me attending Achungo is that I can study with other orphans. The best thing about Achungo is that we really learn. It also helps people become leaders and helps those people who can’t afford their children’s learning. I would like to become a physiologist because I’m interested in the study of how our body functions.
