I came to Achungo in 5th grade after attending a public school. Achungo is much better; the academics are much a better and they don’t mistreat you because you don’t have money. I live nearby in Imbo with my grandmother and my sister, Diana (19). My grandmother is sick and is not working but begs from neighbors so that we have something to eat. That’s how it has been since my parents died and we miss them very much and cry when we think about them. Sometimes we go to bed without eating or only have gruel (uji). If we are lucky, sometimes when we are playing with other children, their parents will feed us. We have a small garden plot but we don’t have money for seed, so grandmother let’s other cultivate it and they share some of the harvest. But in our area, people don’t help each other much, so we are left on our own.
During breaks I like to play football (soccer). I also study my books to better understand what we have been learning and sometimes I get help from the teachers. When I am hope I help look after our sheep. I enjoy that because it is the only animal that we have.
I feel good at Achungo because it will help me have a good future. After my education I want to be an engineer and help my children have a good life, better than the one I am passing through right now. And we are looking after my grandmother.
